Vintage Jax Beer Painted Metal Sign
A vintage flat painted sheet metal advertising sign for Jax Beer, constructed with an attached wooden reverse framework. The sign face features prominent block lettering reading "DRINK JAX BEER" across a red and neutral field, with factory imprint text along the lower edge attributing production to the Jackson Brewing Company of New Orleans, Louisiana. Authentic weathering is evident across the entire metal surface, characterized by heavy oxidation, surface rust, paint wear, and scattered creases.
Background Note
Founded in 1890 in the French Quarter of New Orleans, the Jackson Brewing Company grew to become one of the largest independent regional breweries in the American South. The company distributed colorful, large-scale metal signage to grocery stores, taverns, and highway depots to compete against national post-Prohibition beer brands. The brewery's historic 1891 brewhouse on Decatur Street remains a prominent landmark overlooking the Mississippi River.
