Maxwell Cane Back Dining Chair
The Maxwell dining chair features a rectangular woven cane back inset into an exposed light wood frame with a weathered finish. Its cushioned seat is upholstered in a neutral linen-blend fabric and is supported by classic fluted, tapered front legs detailed with carved corner rosettes.
Background Note
The linear frame and fluted legs reflect the neoclassical Louis XVI style popularized in late 18th-century France as a restrained departure from the ornate curves of Rococo design. Caned seating became widely embraced during this era not only for its refined symmetry, but also because open-weave rattan provided essential ventilation and comfort in warm dining salons.
