Handcrafted Ceramic Crab Serving Bowl
This handcrafted ceramic bowl features an intricately sculpted crab rendered in raised relief along the exterior wall. Finished in variegated slate blue and soft grey glazes with a smooth interior, the vessel rests on an unglazed stoneware foot incised with the artist's signature and dated 2020. The piece is food safe, making it suitable for functional dining service or decorative display.
Background Note
In contemporary studio pottery, artists frequently merge wheel-thrown vessels with hand-sculpted relief work to create dynamic, tactile forms rooted in coastal traditions. Glazes applied over raised relief naturally pool in recesses and break across edges during firing, accentuating the sculpted anatomical textures. High-fired stoneware provides the necessary density and durability for utilitarian tabletop servingware while maintaining an artisan aesthetic.
