Hidden Hills Designs Stained Glass Mallard
Crafted by Hidden Hills Designs, this tabletop sculpture depicts a mallard duck and cattails resting on a natural weathered driftwood mount. The duck is constructed from art glass in hues of forest green, warm amber, cream, and deep brown, assembled with soldered lead lines. Slender glass reed leaves and textured cattail heads rise from behind the duck, accented by a patch of preserved moss nestled into the rustic wood base.
Background Note
The copper foil technique, developed in the late 19th century and popularized by Tiffany Studios, allows artisans to wrap hand-cut glass segments with adhesive copper tape before soldering them along fine seams. This method accommodates tight curves and delicate assemblies far more effectively than traditional rigid lead came, making it the preferred standard for dimensional studio glass decor. Pairing stained glass waterfowl and wetland flora with natural driftwood emerged as a prominent North American studio craft style celebrating native wildlife.
