Refinished Mid-Century White Four-Drawer Chest
This mid-century modern chest of drawers features a refinished white painted exterior paired with warm brass hardware. The upper case contains two deep drawers detailed with horizontal incised channels and oval brass knobs, while the slightly stepped lower case houses two full-width drawers fitted with horizontal bar pulls. Built with dovetailed joinery and solid hardwood drawer sides, the unit is supported by a plinth base with a subtle arched front cutout.
Background Note
Stepped-front case pieces and illusionistic drawer facades became popular in American mid-century design, offering the visual proportions of modular storage while retaining expansive interior volume. Furniture makers in the 1950s and 1960s commonly utilized machine-cut dovetail joints on drawer boxes to provide superior structural stability against tension and daily wear.
