Big Easy Mahj Mahjong Tile Set
The Big Easy Mahj set is a complete custom mahjong game presented in an illustrated decorative box. Designed with New Orleans imagery and regional motifs, the acrylic tiles feature local landmarks like the French Quarter and Garden District alongside Louisiana seasonal themes such as king cake, crawfish, crab, oysters, and Mardi Gras beads. The complete set includes 158 custom tiles, an informational booklet detailing the artwork, and a sealed set of purple and green dice with gold pips.
Background Note
Mahjong was introduced to North America in the early 1920s through game importer Joseph Park Babcock, who published a simplified English rulebook that sparked a widespread national craze. As the game took root across American communities, custom themed sets emerged, replacing classical suits with motifs representing regional heritage, city landmarks, and local tradition. Today, specialized tile sets continue that tradition by combining classic tile-matching gameplay with distinct regional artistic themes.
