Cherub Shadowbox Pedestal Display
This tabletop shadowbox display features a central relief sculpture of a winged cherub crafted from plaster, set within a deep wooden box finished with a molded metallic frame. The framed enclosure is mounted on a fluted silvered glass pedestal base. A hanging paper tag attached to the base displays scripture text from Psalm 34:2.
Background Note
Nichos are decorative recessed shadowboxes derived from traditional Latin American devotional art and folk shrines used to display sacred figures and personal mementos. Originally handmade using tin, wood, and repurposed picture frames, these compact altars provided a protected dimensional frame for miniature sculptures and religious prints. Modern artisans continue this craft tradition by combining mixed-media elements, distressed finishes, and classic iconographic motifs for display in contemporary home interiors.
