Antique Singer Sewing Machine Head

This antique Singer sewing machine head features cast iron construction adorned with ornate gold Egyptian Sphinx decals and an intricately scroll-engraved faceplate. Offered as the machine head only, it shows notable cosmetic wear and paint loss along the bed and gold decals consistent with age, while the handwheel turns freely.

Background Note

The Singer Manufacturing Company introduced elaborate decal patterns like the Sphinx design in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to turn utilitarian household appliances into decorative parlour showpieces. Produced at major manufacturing plants such as the Elizabethport, New Jersey facility, these cast-iron machines were engineered for durability and widespread domestic use. Today, standalone vintage machine heads are widely collected for display, historical appreciation, or decorative display.
